On Sunday June 11th, around 20 beekeepers risked driving their cars down the Peeks' track, arriving around 2pm. When most people had arrived, we all walked down to the apiary, in the woods, where our speaker, Ian McLean, showed us how to open a hive and keep the bees calm, whilst explaining fully about the hive opening and what he was doing to the newer beekeepers present.
After inspecting two colonies, we moved back to the barbeque, and, before eating, we listened to an extremely informative talk by Ian, on swarming and swarm prevention, whilst eating tea and drinking cakes.
To finish, we had a barbeque and some salads, along with inspiring talk and a few drinks. Fortunately, after some cloud in the morning, the weather was excellent with a refreshing breeze to stop us from being barbequed!
